Spend your first few runs listening to the music rather than staring at obstacles. Notice how the beat aligns with gap positions. Once you feel the tempo in your fingers, your taps will naturally land at the right moments without conscious effort.
Keep your ship near the middle of the wave amplitude. Riding too high or too low limits your adjustment range when a gap appears at the opposite extreme. The center position gives you maximum flexibility to move in either direction.
